Paulo Almeida
Afro-Brazilian jazz for fans of melodic drumming
Paulo Almeida is a Brazilian drummer, percussionist and composer, now on his fifth album as a leader. He plays the kit like a melodic instrument, chasing unusual sounds over deep Afro-Brazilian rhythm. He studied classical and popular music at the Conservatory of Tatuí in São Paulo state. In 2019 and 2020 he played in the Focus Year Band, led by Wolfgang Muthspiel in Basel. Since then he's played festivals and jazz clubs worldwide, and worked alongside Hermeto Pascoal, Dhafer Youssef, Anat Cohen, Ralph Alessi and Leny Andrade.
